The teaching profession has been recognized as a regulated profession according to the Teacher and Educational Personnel Council Act since B.E. 2546 (2003). Additionally, Item 5, Paragraph 2 of the Teachers Council Regulations on Teacher Licenses, B.E. 2547 (2004), states that it is the obligation of all foreigner nationals who wish to teach in Thai schools to be trained and evaluated under the criteria and processes stipulated by the Teachers Council of Thailand. Consequently, this training program has been created in accordance with the above regulations in order to provide foreign teachers with proper knowledge and understanding required for obtaining the Teacher’s License within the Kingdom of Thailand.

Course Overview

The Teachers and Educational Personnel council Act B.E 2546 (2003) prescribes that teaching profession is a licensed profession, and the second paragraph of Clause 5 of the Regulation of the teacher Council of Thailand Governing Professional Practice License B.E. 2547(2004) prescribes that any foreigner applying for a license to practice the teaching profession shall have passed the testing and evaluation of knowledge in accordance with the rules and procedures as specified by the teachers Council of Thailand Board. This That culture and professional ethics training course is established by the Teachers Council of Thailand for foreigners having education degree and applying for licenses to practice the teaching profession, provided that such foreigners shall have completed training in this course.

Objective

To ensure that a person who has completed training in this course understand Thai society, professional ethics and can use knowledge and experience obtained from the training to practice the profession effectively.

Course Description

1. Thai Society: (4 hours)

State of Thai society in the past and at present; social structures; way of life environments; and Thai wisdom.

2. Thai Language and Culture: (6 hours)

Thai language in daily living; beliefs; values; characteristics of Thai people dress code on various occasions; food; Thai sports and games; and Buddhist life styles.

3. Thai Manners: (2 hours)

Manners on various occasions: Standing postures on formal and informal occasions; walking; sitting and how to rise from a seated position; how to do “Wais” to individuals of different social strata; and encountering, receiving from and handing articles to higher- ranking individuals.

4. Thai Arts and Music: (2 hours)

Thai arts from various regions of Thailand; values and beauty; uniqueness of Thai arts in each region; characteristics and features of Thai musical instruments; Thai dramatic arts; Thai literature; Thai sports and games.

5. Professional Ethics: (6 hours)

Professional standards and ethics; central focuses in The B.E. 25 Association and Educational Personnel Act; the significance of professional ethics; personal behaviors; professional ethics; ethical standards towards service recipients; ethical standards towards colleagues; and social ethics.

Evaluation and Assessment

Observation, Interview and Discussion, Hands-on Practice.

US Graduate Credit

For this course is available with Buffalo State, State University of New York, for an additional Thai Baht 3,500. This course can be applied towards the completion of a SUNY Master ‘s degree, for professional development or used as transfer credit.
